Discussion #1: What has been the most effective workout routine/regimen you have used?

Please discuss workout routines you have done that have really helped you accomplish your goals most effectively.  On the other hand, also discuss what has not worked, and why those routines fell short for you.

    Hiking in the Spring of this year was the most effective workout I’ve ever done. I was going a few days a week and my shortest hikes were around 90 minutes. Longer ones were 4 or 5 hours. I lost 20lbs in 6 weeks.

    I’ve somehow managed to keep about 10 of them off, even though I sat on my butt all summer. Can’t hike when it’s 120 degrees outside, and that’s all I wanted to do at the time so I did nothing instead.

    5×5 program 1bp/week, starting light, and gradually increasing the weight.

    Max-OT-esque type programs have not worked for me (past 3-4 weeks).
